Luceros Square (officially in Valencian: Plaça dels Estels) is the most emblematic of the city of Alicante. It has in the center a monumental fountain built in 1930 by the sculptor Daniel Alicante Bañuls Martinez. Until 1934 it was called Independence Square. On that date it was renamed Plaza Catalunya after various vicissitudes name remained until 1939 when it passed to honor a stanza of Cara al Sol.In the early 1950s this was a busy place and meeting in the city, especially in the summer evenings, when the source instead offered free show of luminous fountains.
